Deferred Success

02 Deferred Success by Silent Skies
(download)

My cousin Phil plays a "song a day" for his 6'th grade music class
that he teaches and expects the students to give a critique. He
recently played my "Deferred Success" track from the record I
completed last year under the alias, Silent Skies. Here is the track
they reviewed along with their reviews:
-I liked the instrumental part.
-It's a little like you're running or going down steps; then stopped
to get a drink of water and met some friends, then all of y'all
started to run slow, slow, fast, slow, fast. Didn't like the melody,
harmony, tone color.
-I liked the beat, the lyrics, the songs, and the guitar sounds, and
the bass in the beat.
-I like it because the tempo sounds nice and the tone color made it unique.
-It wasn't the music I'm used to listening to.
-I liked the melody.
-Don't like it; don't have no cool rhythm; can't understand what he is saying.
-Lyrics-didn't like.
-I didn't like it because the song was too plain. Also it had weird,
non-understandable lyrics.
-The beat.
-I didn't like it because the song was funny and had weird-o lyrics.
Also I didn't like the tone color.
-Different
-I liked the beat, but I don't like the singing cause he can't sing.
-No, I don't like it because of the rhythm and form.
-No, I don't like it cause it's not the kind of music I listen to and
cause of the tone.

crocus

This was my fifth year drawing at the Orchid Show, but it was the wild
crocuses that caught my attention and the eyes of some passersby. I
gave them my card and the piece has already sold. I think I'll draw in
parks more often.

15 hours | 15 photos

Recently inspired by a post on Tiny Red about taking a photo every
hour for the majority of the waking day, I decided to try it myself.
Just some snippets into what my eyes tend to focus on. Can you spot
the dry ice?

Interactive Film Collaboration

Here is an art group creating a film through the use of cell phone
technology, changing the script by texting it to each other as the
film is played. Its considered an "experimental performance and game."
Reminds me of Ninja Guy a bit (an experimental comic book and game).
The film is called "The Third Woman" (changed from it's original
"Third Man" title at some point).

Nova to Mraf

The thing I loved about DC and Marvel crossover stories was the idea
of different worlds colliding with each other. Usually there was some
sort of initial squabble followed by a treaty to put the hurt on a
mutual foe. The thing I used to hate about a crossover story within a
single universe (such as Marvel's) was that they made me buy some
stupid comic that I would never have purchased to begin with in order
to read the whole story. For instance, I would be happily reading
Spiderman, but then all of a sudden, due to a crossover, I would have
to buy a Nova comic in order to understand what was happening. Nova.
Who likes Nova? Abilities: energy projection and absorption. I mean,
who can't rub their socks on the carpet and shock someone in the ear?
So stupid. It was an obvious ploy to boost a comic's sales like "Nova"
to get Spiderman readers to have to buy a Nova comic in order to enjoy
the good comics. We all knew it, but we all went along with it anyway.
What else could we do? Switch to Viz? Well... yes, but I digress.

I recently became one of 4 winners of some lovely Field Notes Sketchbooks
from Doodlers Anonymous, and I thought I would share the
love with my good pal, Ryan, of the Mraf universe. We will both be
drawing in the same sketchbook and on top of each other's drawings
just like old times. I think it is important to collaborate with
someone you naturally work well with, and Ryan and I seem to have the
ability to function on complimentary brainwaves every once in awhile,
so we thought we would give it another go. The catch is this: you'll
have to read the Mraf posterous blog AND the Nova posterous blog in
order to make sense of it all (this is where all the Mraf fans heave a
big tumultuous groan). Do not worry: the Mraf world and the Nova
world will continue to operate separately with their own stories, but
every once in awhile, you might see an update from one of us on this
particular project. Just so you know...

13x366

A little art show I am having at the Murdoch Perk here in SoHa, my
wonderful new St. Louis neighborhood. I've titled the show "13x366"
because I selected 13 of the past year's worth of Trudger drawings to
display here. The Trudger Project was implemented during a leap year,
hence the 366 drawings. I'm celebrating its completion
with a crepe and a latte. Come by and visit!

snowbound in the new house

The big snow of the year so far, and it was my first in the new house.
It was fun to enjoy how it all visually looked here for the first time
with everything snow-covered.

predictions for coffee drinkers

In the future (perhaps even later this year), someone will invent a coffee mug that you can plug into your USB on your computer. Not only will it keep the contents of your mug warm (that already exists), but a little coffee mug icon will appear on your desktop showing you how many liters of coffee remain in the mug. A warning message will pop up when you are below a certain amount and prompt you to re-fill soon. What else will this little coffee mug application do for you? Time to de-lurk yourself, and sound off your idea!
